Richard Chen

Zhenlin (Richard) Chen is a Ph.D. candidate at Stanford University working on cutting-edge applications of artificial intelligence to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the oil and gas industry. His research focuses on developing AI-driven frameworks, particularly leveraging large language models, to enhance energy data extraction and refine emissions modeling tools like Oil Production Greenhouse Gas Emissions Estimator (OPGEE).

Chen is exploring techniques like private data fine-tuning and reinforcement learning to unlock efficiency gains for these domain-specific AI applications in terms of latency and cost. His work blends engineering principles, field data collection, applied statistics and an understanding of AI software stacks.

With a background in data science from Cornell and atmosphere/energy engineering from Stanford, Chen is well-positioned to invest in practical AI deployments in industry verticals.

Chen has already invested in promising AI startups like Pika Lab, signaling his conviction in the market potential of artificial intelligence for domain-specific applications. He also helps found the AGI house during his off-time with his Stanford alumni to create a community and incubator for builders and entrepreneurs in the bay area, attracting over 200 people for bi-weekly meetings.
